A fifth man has been arrested in connection with stabbings in Arklow, Co Wicklow.

The most recent victim, a man in his 30s, was sent to St Vincent’s Hospital today for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

Gardaí responded to an alleged assault on Abbey St in the town centre at around 4.20pm, after the incident had occurred.

Several roads were closed in the area.

This is believed to be the third incident in a fortnight.

On June 28, another stabbing took place in Ferrybank where a man in his 50s was reportedly seriously injured and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital.

A garda spokesperson at the time confirmed a man in his 20s was arrested in connection with the incident.

The five arrested individuals are currently detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at garda stations in the Wicklow and Wexford.

Investigations are ongoing.
