The accused man on trial for cruelty to his six-month-old baby daughter and seriously assaulting her told investigating gardaí that people would think he did it because he is a 31-year-old man.

“Because I am a male of a certain age everyone is going to think I injured my child, and it is a horrible feeling,” the defendant told gardaí, according to a memo of his interview with gardaí which was read to Judge Dermot Sheehan and the jury on Monday at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
