Revenue seizes €1.4m in cannabis, cocaine, cigarettes, and counterfeit goods in nationwide crackdown
The seized cigarettes were branded L&M, Lambert and Butler Original, and Marlboro Gold. The alcohol seized comprised of 14 litres of spirits and 87.5 litres of wine.
Revenue has seized more than €1.4 million worth of contraband across Ireland over the last 10 days – including cannabis, cocaine, cigarettes, and counterfeit goods.
Officers across Dublin and the Midlands were involved, as well as officials at Rosslare Europort.
The seizures were made as part of wider operations and risk profiling.
They included the following:
- almost 65kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of almost €1,285,000,
- 1.5kg of cannabis resin, with an estimated value of over €9,000,
- various other drugs, with an estimated value of almost €4,000,
- tobacco products with an estimated value of €11,000, and
- 188 counterfeit items, with an estimated value of over €92,000.
The majority of the cannabis was discovered in Dublin Airport.
There, Revenue officers searched a freight shipment that was declared as a jacuzzi hot tub originating from Thailand and destined for Northern Ireland.
They discovered 55 kg of cannabis with an estimated value of €1,100,000.
The remaining herbal cannabis, cannabis resin, and other illicit drugs were discovered while Revenue officers were examining parcels at premises in Dublin and the Midlands.
The parcels originated from the USA, Britain, India, Canada, France, Slovenia, Poland, and the Netherlands and were destined for addresses in Ireland and France.
The drugs included:
- 10ml of cannabis oil,
- 156.3g of THC edibles,
- 1,564 assorted Alprazolam, Benzodiazepine and Zopiclone tablets,
- 10 cannabis edibles,
- 3 reefers,
- 7 nitrous oxide canisters,
- 5.41g of 2-MMC,
- 120g of psilocybe and
- 48 psilocybe truffles.
11,000 cigarettes, with a value of €9,900, and 1.4 kg of rolling tobacco, with a value of €1,100, were seized in separate operations in Kilkenny and the Midlands.
In addition to the above, over 100 litres of alcohol, with a retail value of over €2,275, was seized in Rosslare Europort and the Midlands.
The alcohol seized comprised 14 litres of spirits and 87.5 litres of wine.
The counterfeit goods included brands such as Adidas, Asics, Boss, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Chanel, Christian Dior, Coach, Gucci, Hugo Boss, Louis Vuitton, Mercedes, Moncler, New Balance, North Face, Nike, Polo, Ralph Lauren, Stone Island, Tommy Hilfiger, and YSL.
A Revenue spokesperson confirmed that investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
