'I will come for you': Former drug addict jailed for threatening Cork garda
Cork District Court heard the defendant 'became extremely abusive and aggressive' towards the garda.
A 32-year-old man gritted his teeth at a member of An Garda SĆochĆ”na and told him: āI will come for youā. He was jailed on Thursday for seven months for this and other crimes.
Eddie Burke, solicitor for Lukasz Wrobel at the sentencing hearing at Cork District Court, said: āHis problem was drugs ā they have destroyed his life.ā Lukasz Wrobel of Cork Simon Community pleaded guilty to charges of engaging in threatening behaviour and being so intoxicated that he was a source of danger to himself or others at the time.
Sergeant John Kelleher said the public order incident occurred on November 25, 2024, at Cornmarket Street. Garda Shane Lucey was on beat patrol and encountered the accused shouting and roaring and causing a disturbance.
āWhile speaking with him there was a strong smell of cannabis and alcohol. He became extremely abusive and aggressive.
āMr Wrobel was gritting his teeth and shouting, āGive me back my weed you stupid c***ā. And he shouted, āF***ing spastic, I will come for you.ā He did not calm down and desist and he began shouting at members of the public who were walking by, āWhat are ye looking at ye stupid f***ing pricksā.āĀ
In an earlier incident on August 1, 2024, Garda Shane Hayes found a knife in the defendantās trousers pocket and a small amount of cannabis for his own use.
Mr Burke, solicitor, said the 32-year-old Polish man remained residing in Cork after his mother went back to Poland.
āHe is clean of drugs now for the first time in about 10 years. He is on methadone. He used to be in court asleep and unable to deal with matters, not knowing where he was,ā Mr Burke said.
Judge Mary Dorgan said she was glad he was on methadone now and clear of drugs but she said: āHis language to the guards was unedifying to say the least and it contained a threat.ā
