It is alleged that the value of the seized drugs in the case was €14,000.

A 33-year-old man charged with dealing cocaine in Cork city almost seven years ago appeared at Cork District Court where he signed a plea of guilty to the charges against him today.

He was remanded in custody from Cork District Court for sentencing at the present sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

Svetiozar Sabev, of no fixed address and of Bakers Road, Cork, was charged with counts of possession of cocaine and having the drug for the purpose of sale or supply to others.

He was arrested in Germany on foot of a European arrest warrant and brought back to Ireland.

It is alleged that the value of the seized drugs in the case was €14,000.

Sergeant GearĂłid Davis said the Director of Public Prosecutions directed trial by indictment at Cork Circuit Criminal Court in the case and said that a guilty plea could be entered at Cork District Court for sentencing to be dealt with at the circuit court.

Aoife Buttimer solicitor asked for an adjournment of the case so that the defence could decide on its approach to the case. However, later in the day the case was mentioned again and Ms Buttimer confirmed that signed pleas of guilty would be entered.

The most serious of the charges stated that on March 9, 2018, at Fuller’s Road, Cork city, he had in his possession cocaine for the purpose of selling or otherwise supplying to another, contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act.

On the application of Sgt Davis, Judge Mary Dorgan adjourned the case for sentencing at the circuit court with the accused remanded in custody until then.

Court proceedings were dealt with through a Bulgarian interpreter who will also be required for the next court appearance.
