Boy, 17, charged in connection with serious assault in Mullingar

A 17-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a serious assault in Co Westmeath.

The incident occurred on Grove Street in Mullingar in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A man, aged in his 30s, was discovered on the street with serious injuries. He remains in critical condition at Beaumont Hospital.

The 17-year-old is due to appear before Mullingar District Court on Thursday morning.

A second 17-year-old arrested in connection with the incident has been released without charge.

A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
