The case was adjourned by Judge Mary Dorgan to allow time for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions at Cork District Court.

DPP directions will be given on December 16 in the case against a 21-year-old man charged with having an improvised shotgun during an incident in Shanakiel in Cork last August.

Sergeant Gearóid Davis told Cork District Court that he had clarified with the senior officer in the investigation, and that Garda Gary Purtill testified that he arrested Craig Condron, of 76 Templeacre Avenue, Gurranabraher, Cork, just before 10am on October 14 and subsequently charged him with two counts under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.

He was cautioned that he did not have to say anything but that whatever he might say would be taken down in writing and could be given in evidence. He made no reply to the charges.

The first charge stated that at Laurel Ridge, Shanakiel, Cork, on August 23, he had a firearm, namely a 12-guage improvised shotgun for an unlawful purpose.

The second charge related to the same time and place and refers to the alleged possession of ammunition — a 12-guage Winchester brand cartridge.

Gardaí indicated that there was an objection to bail being granted to the young man.

However, solicitor Frank Buttimer said that at this stage there was no application for bail. He said that he would notify gardaí in advance of any intention to apply for bail.

On the application of Sergeant Gearóid Davis, the case was adjourned by Judge Mary Dorgan to allow time for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions at Cork District Court.
