Cork man who texted friend to say girl, 15, was 'about to become a woman' is jailed

Court told that after accused had sex with the girl at his home, he drove off to play golf and left the victim at a bottle bank

Judge Helen Boyle sentenced Patrick Rodgers, of Murmount Road, Mayfield, Cork, to seven years in prison with the final 18 months suspended.

A man who had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl — texting a friend to say “she is about to become a woman” — was sentenced to seven years in prison with the final 18 months suspended.

Judge Helen Boyle imposed that sentence on 34-year-old Patrick Rodgers, of Murmount Road, Mayfield, Cork, who pleaded guilty to the offence of engaging in sexual activity with a child under the age of 17.
