Second arrest made in relation to hit and run in Baldoyle

The incident took place on Coast Road in Baldoyle, Dublin 13, at around 1am on Wednesday morning, July 17.

A second person has been arrested as part of a hit and rrun which claimed the life of man in north Dublin in July.

The victim, 40-year-old pedestrian Michael ‘Mikey’ Farrelly, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident took place on Coast Road in Baldoyle, Dublin 13, at around 1am on Wednesday morning, July 17.

A man in his late teens has already been arrested over the fatal crash, and an updated statement from gardaí on Thursday said a second man has been arrested over the same incident.

It said: “Gardaí have arrested a second individual as part of an investigation into the fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the coast road in Baldoyle, Dublin 13 in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 17th July 2024.

“The male juvenile (aged in his late teens) was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Dublin.

“He has since been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Garda Youth Diversion Office.

“The previously arrested individual, a man (aged in his late teens) was released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
