Investigations arising out of the seizure of €70,000 worth of cannabis in Mayfield on Sunday afternoon resulted in a 31-year-old man being arrested and brought before Cork District Court on Monday.
Detective Garda Michael Abernethy testified at Cork District Court that he arrested Richard O’Callaghan of 33 Liffey Park, Mayfield, Cork, and brought him before the court.
Notified that any reply could be taken down and given in evidence, the defendant made no reply to either charge.
The first charge stated that he was in possession of cannabis for his own use on September 15 at 33 Liffey Park. The second count accused him of having the drug for the purpose of selling or otherwise supplying to others.
Solicitor Diarmuid Kelleher was appointed to represent the accused on free legal aid. Det. Garda Abernethy said there was no objection to bail being granted to Richard O’Callaghan on conditions.
They require him to sign on at Mayfield garda station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, reside at his home and notify gardaí of any change of address, provide gardaí with a phone number at which he is contactable at all times and surrender his passport to gardaí.
On the application of Sergeant Dave Delea, Judge Philip O’Leary adjourned the case until December 9 to allow time for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
