A man accused of slashing another man with a weapon outside a coffee shop in Cork city centre on Friday September 6 appeared by video link from prison on Wednesday.

Sergeant Dave Delea said there were no directions yet in the case from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Shane Collins-Daly, solicitor, told accused Aaron Bohane by video link the case was being adjourned by Judge Mary Dorgan until September 25 to allow time for DPP directions.Ā

Mr Bohane replied: ā€œNo problem.ā€ The accused man is a native of Ballincollig but currently of no fixed address.

He faces two offences arising out of the investigation into the attack on 38-year-old Gavin Sheehan in Cork at about 5pm on Friday.

Mr Bohane is charged with assault causing harm to Gavin Sheehan on Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork, on September 6 contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

He is also charged with producing a bladed weapon while committing an offence, namely assault causing harm contrary to Section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.

Detective Garda Joe Crowley of Anglesea Street Garda Station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and told the court at a special sitting of Cork District Court on Sunday that Mr Bohane made no reply to either charge after caution.

The defendant has reserved his position regarding a possible bail application. Mr Collins-Daly represented him on free legal aid after earlier evidence the accused was unemployed and in receipt of social welfare.
