At Cork District Court Judge Mary Dorgan sentenced the man to five months in prison.

A 41-year-old Cork man spat into a shopkeeper’s face when he was being deflected from shoplifting at the premises and he was jailed today for five months as the victim described the offence as the lowest of the low.

Daniel Walsh, of 15 Charles Daly Road, Ballyphehane, Cork, who has mental health problems compounded by alcohol, pleaded guilty to assaulting the shopkeeper.
