A Cork man leaving what was described as a “drugs storehouse” at Madden’s Buildings in Blackpool, Cork, was searched and found with €3,000 worth of heroin stuffed down his pants.

Detective Garda Rory Fogarty said that in a follow-up search at a house the gardaí seized €2,500 in cash which was believed to be the proceeds of drug-dealing.

These were among the allegations made by the detective in an objection to bail being granted to 39-year-old Alan Duggan, formerly of 65 Ballinderry Park, Mayfield, Cork, at Cork District Court.

Det. Garda Fogarty said the prosecution concern was that if the accused man was released on bail he would get involved in further serious crime, in particular drug-related offences.

Donal Daly, solicitor, applied for bail stating that the accused man was expecting his first child and that his partner was due in the coming weeks. Judge Mary Dorgan remanded Alan Duggan, formerly of 65 Ballinderry Park, Mayfield, Cork, in custody with consent to bail.

The conditions of bail include his own bail of €3,000 of which €1,000 has to be lodged in court and an independent surety of €2,000 of which €1,000 cash to be lodged. Other conditions require him to live at an address at Blackpool, keep a curfew to be home from 11pm until 7am each night, surrender his passport and abstain from intoxicants.

Det. Garda Fogarty alleged that 20 grammes of Diamorphine (heroin) valued €3,000 were found in his pants and €2,500 cash was found in the follow-up search of a property.

Alan Duggan had the case against him adjourned until July 29. Also adjourned to that date was an older charge on which he was arrested on a bench warrant yesterday when being dealt with on the fresh matter.

The old charge relates to April 15, 2021, and states that he permitted drug preparation at a house at Ard Bhaile, Mayfield. The new charges of heroin possession and having the drug for sale or supply related to Wednesday, July 24, at Madden’s Buildings.
