Four Spanish nationals remanded in continuing custody on drugs charges

Four Spanish nationals accused of conspiring to import drugs into Ireland were remanded in custody to allow time for directions to be obtained from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Each man is accused of conspiring with nine others to import drugs.

Angel Serran Padilla, age 39, of Malaga, Spain, and Pedro Padio Ojeda Ortega, age 35, of Cadiz, Spain, appeared together from prison, and a Spanish interpreter in court translated proceedings. They were represented in court by Eddie Burke, solicitor.

Their cases were adjourned by Judge Mary Dorgan until June 5 as they consented to a four-week remand in custody.

Two other men also appeared in court by video link from prison. Raul Garcia Tabares, age 48, of Cadiz, Spain, and 41-year-old Anuar Rahui of Malaga, Spain, were remanded in custody until May 21 and May 28, respectively.

They were both represented to date by solicitor Frank Buttimer. In respect of Raul Garcia Tabares, Mr Buttimer applied to come off record.Judge Dorgan allowed the solicitor to come off record. It will now be a matter for him to get another solicitor.
