Up to €1.1m worth of cannabis seized at Dublin Port

Gardaí in Dublin have arrested a man following a significant drug seizure on Wednesday.

Revenue officers, with the assistance of detector dog James, discovered the illicit drugs when they stopped a van that had arrived at Dublin Port from the UK.

Officers seized 55.3kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €1,106,000.

The drugs were hidden in vacuum-packed packages among a consignment of bottled water and garden furniture.

The man was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained at a Garda station in Dublin where he can be held for up to seven days.

Investigations are ongoing.
