The man who was shot in a Dublin restaurant on Christmas Eve has died.

Jason Hennessy Snr, who was in his late 40s, sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the shooting at Browne’s Steakhouse in Blanchardstown.

Mr Hennessy, who was well known to gardaí, was initially treated in Dublin’s Connolly Hospital but had been transferred to the city’s Mater Hospital, where he died. 

An autopsy will be conducted by the State Pathologist in the coming days.

GardaĂ­ have now opened a second murder investigation as part of the wider investigation into the Christmas Eve incident.

The alleged attacker, Tristan Sherry, was fatally stabbed during the incident in the busy restaurant which was filled with families celebrating Christmas Eve.

Last week Michael Andrecut, 22, of Sheephill Avenue, Corduff, appeared at a special sitting of the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin charged with Mr Sherry’s murder.

A second man was charged on Thursday, January 4 in relation to the fatal assault. He is due to appear before a sitting of Blanchardstown District Court tomorrow at 10.30am.

A third man who was arrested is still being held at a Garda station in west Dublin under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Garda Family Liaison Officers continue to liaise with both families regarding the investigation.

An incident room in Blanchardstown Garda Station is continuing to investigate all incidents relating to the attack at Browne's Steakhouse on the night in question.

GardaĂ­ continue to appeal for any witnesses and any person who may have video footage of the incidents to come forward.
