Man who allegedly told colleague she should be slapped loses unfair dismissal claim

The WRC was told that the company dismissed the worker arising from an incident in the workplace when the male worker allegedly prodded a woman in the buttocks with a sharp instrument.

 A manufacturing firm dismissed a process operator for gross misconduct after he allegedly told a female colleague that her “husband should give you a few slaps every now and again to put you in your place”.

In the process operator's unsuccessful unfair dismissal claim before the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC), the WRC was told that the company dismissed the worker on November 27, 2020, arising from an incident in the workplace on May 8, 2020, where after allegedly verbally abusing his female colleague, the male worker proceeded to allegedly prod her in the buttocks with a sharpened instrument.
