Book of evidence served on man charged over Cork cocaine seizure
Revenue officers in Cork seized approximately 60kg of cocaine with an estimated value of €4.2m.
A book of evidence was served on one of the men charged in relation to the seizure of over €4 million worth of cocaine at Dunkettle in Cork city last August.
Sergeant Gearóid Davis confirmed service of a book of evidence on Daniel Afedoaei of Sli an Aifreann, Athlone, County Westmeath, at Cork District Court.
On the application of the sergeant, Judge Mary Dorgan sent the case against the 22-year-old forward for trial at the sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court commencing on January 29, 2024.
An alibi warning was given to the accused whereby he must give the state notice of witnesses if he is relying on an alibi defence.
Mr Afedoaie was represented in Cork District Court by barrister Andrea Gilligan.
He is charged with possession of cocaine and having cocaine for sale or supply on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Dunkettle, and having more than €13,000 worth of the drug — the threshold figure which provides for a minimum ten-year sentence unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Two co-accused previously had related cases adjourned to other dates.
The seizure of the drugs occurred following an intelligence-led operation targeting persons suspected of involvement with organised crime, a joint operation conducted by the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau and personnel attached to the Revenue Customs Service.
During this operation, Revenue officers seized approximately 60kg of cocaine with an estimated value of €4,200,000.
