A 30-year-old man accused of defilement of a teenage boy and possession of almost 10,000 images and video files of child sexual abuse—many of them described as cartoon images—was served with a book of evidence on Wednesday.

The first charge states that on January 1, 2022, at his home in Cork he had in his possession child pornography. It is alleged in the charge that he had 9,751 image and video files on a mobile phone which consisted of 1,354 files of sexual activity with a child. 341 files depicted a child’s exposed genitalia and 8,056 were cartoon images of children engaged in sexual activity.
