Rape survivor urges victims to report crimes as grandfather jailed 

The man who raped and abused his granddaughter was jailed for twelve and a half years at the Central Criminal Court in Cork.

A 71-year-old Cork man who carried out a terrifying campaign of abuse and rape of his granddaughter when she was aged eight to twelve years old was jailed for twelve and a half years today.

Mr Justice Michael McGrath said there was an element of grooming involved in this case as the grandfather gave the child small sums of money after incidents of sexual abuse.
