A former manager of the Amber service station in Ballyhooly, Cork,  was sentenced to three and a half years suspended for stealing more than €55,000 from his then-employer.

Detective Garda Dave Barry testified at Cork Circuit Criminal Court that Charlie McCarthy, aged 69, of 12 The Paddocks, Kennel Hill, Mallow, Co Cork, delayed the banking of the service station’s daily takings and then would, for instance, bank four days of takings to the company account and divert one day’s takings to his own benefit.
