The Supreme Court has decided to defer until May 31, 2025, the activation of its declaration that found legislation restricting voting in the university Seanad election to two third-level institutions was invalid.

On March 31 last, the seven judge court held that sections 6 and 7 of the 1937 Seanad Electoral (University Members) Act 1937 were inconsistent with the Constitution.
