A man who claimed he had a knife has been jailed for a year for threatening to kill two gardaí in Ballingeary, Co Cork, and telling them he would “put them on their backs”.

Judge Helen Boyle imposed the term on Stephen Hickey who had a history of convictions for assaults and carrying weapons. She imposed a two-year sentence with the second year suspended at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
