Convicted murderer Freddie Thompson has brought a High Court action over the alleged failure by the prison authorities to respond to questions about the conditions of his detention in Limerick Prison.

Thompson, from Dublin's south inner city, received a life sentence in 2018 after he was found guilty at the Special Criminal Court of the murder of David Douglas two years earlier. Thompson claims he is being detained in conditions that amount to a "punishment".
