During the search, a number of black bin bags were discovered containing the suspected benzodiazepine tablets.

A man has been released following his arrest in connection with the seizure of €650,000 worth of benzodiazepine tablets in Dundalk.

Gardaí discovered the drugs during a search operation in the Bellewsbridge Road area of Dundalk on Thursday. 

At around 5.50pm, a vehicle was stopped by gardaí and a number of black bin bags were discovered containing the suspected benzodiazepine tablets.

The driver of the vehicle, a man aged in his late 30's, was arrested but he was released without charge yesterday afternoon. A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Investigations are ongoing.
