Man, 60s, arrested after woman dies following assault in Clontarf

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 60s following the violent death of an elderly woman in Dublin.

They cordoned off a house at Kincora Court, Clontarf, Dublin 3 after being notified of an attack there.

Gardaí said the dead woman, who is believed to have been in her 80s, received fatal injuries as a result of the incident.

Her body remained at the scene which gardaí preserved in advance of the arrival of an expert from the State Pathologist's office.

The man was arrested at the scene and was being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 in Clontarf Garda Station.

A garda spokesman said investigations are ongoing.
