Four types of ready-made meals have been recalled by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

Retailers are being requested to remove implicated batches of Fit Food Chicken and Chorizo Baby Potatoes, Fit Foods Chicken and Stuffing with Potatoes and Gravy, Chef Select High Protein Jamaican Jerk Chicken and Fresh Choice Kitchen Roast Chicken Dinner.

The FSAI said Listeria can cause mild flu-like symptoms or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

However, it can lead to severe infections and serious complications in people who are more vulnerable.

These include pregnant women, infants, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.

The incubation period for Listeria is, on average, three weeks, but can range between three and 70 days.

Retailers are being requested to remove the implicated batches from sale and display recall notices at the point of sale.

Wholesalers/distributors are being requested to contact their affected customers and recall the products.
