Man charged in connection with death of woman in Portlaoise

The emergency services were called to the home on Church Street in the town shortly after 12.30pm on Sunday.

A man in his 70s will appear in court this morning charged in relation to the fatal assault of a woman in her 50s in a house in Portlaoise at the weekend. 

The emergency services were called to the home on Church Street in the town shortly after 12.30pm on Sunday.

The woman was pronounced dead and a man in his 70s was arrested at the scene.

Gardaí in Laois investigating the fatal assault have now charged the arrested man and he is due to appear before Portlaoise District Court this morning at 10.30am.
