A young girl is in critical condition after being airlifted to hospital following a crash in Co Westmeath.
The incident, involving a pedestrian and a car, happened on the L6821 in Clonmellon at around 7.30pm on Wednesday evening.
The child, who was the pedestrian, was airlifted to Temple Street Children’s Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
"Her condition remains critical", a garda spokesperson said.
The road remains closed to allow gardaí carry out a technical examination of the scene. Local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage, and who were travelling in the area between 6.45pm and 7.45pm on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, are asked to make this available to investigating gardaí.
