Wet and windy weather is in store for the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, as Met Éireann says rain, cold, and some wind will dominate those days.

Tuesday started off dull with some patches of rain and drizzle. However, some sunny breaks are possible with highs of 11C to 14C. It will then drop to between 6C and 10C with cloud, light rain, drizzle and mist tonight.

Wednesday will start cloudy, with patchy drizzle and mist, before it spreads southeastwards through the day. Dry weather and spells of sunshine will follow from the northwest with highs of 10C to 14C before it becomes cooler as the rain clears.

Cloud and the last of the rain will clear from the southeast on Wednesday night, and it will stay mainly dry with clear spells before becoming cloudier later in the night. Lows of -2C means frost in some areas

Thursday will start off chilly and mostly cloudy, with the best of the sunny spells in the south and east. Outbreaks of rain will develop, though some areas will stay dry and temperatures will reach 10C in places

It will then be cloudy and breezy on Thursday night with outbreaks of rain in most areas.

High winds a possibility for Good Friday

Met Éireann says that while there is still uncertainty for Good Friday, current indications suggest a windy day with strong winds and gales, bringing a chance of wave overtopping, rain, showers and daytime highs of 11C to 15C.

Friday night will see clear spells and showers early before it becomes cloudy and temperatures drop as low as 3C.

There is potential for wet and windy weather on Saturday, with highs of 10C to 13C before it quickly becomes cold during the evening. Rain will give way to clear spells and scattered showers and some of these may turn wintry as temperatures fall to between 0C and 3C.

The rest of the Easter weekend shows some uncertainty in the forecast at the moment, but it looks like Easter Sunday will be cool and blustery with sunny spells and scattered showers, then possibly turning wet and windy again Sunday night into Monday, according to Met Éireann.
