A yellow warning for wind has been issued for Kerry, Limerick, and three other counties as Met Éireann says very strong and gusty winds are expected.

The warning for Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Galway and Mayo will come into effect at 5pm on Tuesday and remain in place until midnight on Wednesday.

Met Éireann said the strong winds can result in some fallen trees and branches, difficult travel, large coastal waves and potentially damaging gusts.

Meanwhile, Ireland can expect a mixed bag of weather this week as Met Éireann forecasts some sunny spells, rain and both mild and colder temperatures.

Met Éireann said that while wet weather is set to come in mid-week, average temperatures are set to stay between 7C and 13C.

Monday started off dry in most areas, with some patchy drizzle set for the northwest. It will be cloudy for most, however, sunny spells may break through across the Midlands and the East. Highs of 9C to 13C are set for the day before patchy outbreaks of rain move in across the western half of the country.

It will be cloudy and breezy on Monday night with scattered outbreaks of rain, turning heavy across parts of the Midwest and the West. The southeast should stay dry until morning with lows of 6C and 10C. Some mist of fog will also form overnight.

Tuesday will start wet and breezy with some heavy bursts of rain across many areas. Sunny spells will develop across the west and northwest with some heavy showers moving in with the possibility of hail and lightning. More sunshine and heavy showers will then move into the remaining areas later in the afternoon. Daytime highs of 10C to 13C are also expected.

It will stay rather wet and unsettled on Tuesday night with widespread showers, some turning wintry, with lows of 1C to 4C set for the evening.

Wednesday will be another wet and blustery day with widespread showers, some possibly turning wintry on higher ground. Some isolated sunny spells are also set with daytime highs of 5C to 9C expected.

Showers will then ease on Wednesday evening with some clear spells developing later in the night. Nighttime temperatures are set to stay between 1C and 4C.

Looking further into the week, Thursday will start cold with some good sunny spells developing later in the morning. It will stay dry before it becomes cloudier in the afternoon.

Current indications suggest that Friday will be another unsettled day with rain moving over the country, possibly turning heavy at times too.
