Man arrested after cyclist, 70s, dies in collision

The incident happened when a truck collided with a cyclist on Dublin St, R132, in Balbriggan at around 12.40pm.

 Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist died in a traffic collision in Dublin early on Monday afternoon.

The incident happened when a truck collided with a cyclist on Dublin St, R132, in Balbriggan at around 12.40pm.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the male cyclist, who was aged in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A man in his 30s has been arrested.

The coroner has also been notified, and a postmortem examination will be arranged in the days ahead.

The scene in Balbriggan was being preserved for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road is currently closed.

Local traffic diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward. They are also asking road users who were travelling in the area to provide camera footage.

Man, 20s, critical after crash in Tipperary

Meanwhile, gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a collision in Tipperary after a man in his 20s was taken to Cork University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

The incident happened on Sunday around 11pm when a car collided with a pedestrian on the Clonmel Rd (R692), Cashel.

No other injuries were reported at the time.

A technical examination of the scene was carried out by Garda forensic collision investigators and the road has since fully reopened.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. In particular they are interested in speaking with three drivers who passed by the pedestrian prior to the collision.
