The awful spell of weather shows no sign of ending as a fresh weather warning has been issued for nine counties, including Cork.

Last week saw massive damage done in towns across Ireland from the after-effects of Storm Chandra, with towns such as Enniscorthy left devastated by floods following heavy rain.

However, there is even more rain coming, with Met Éireann issuing a status yellow weather warning for nine counties on Monday.

Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork and Waterford will be placed under the warning from 1pm on Monday until 9am on Tuesday.

It reads: "Further heavy rain falling on saturated ground combined with high river levels and high tides will lead to localised flooding, river flooding, and difficult travel conditions.

Meanwhile Dublin, Louth and Wicklow will fall under the same warning from 9pm on Monday until 1pm on Tuesday.

There is also a nationwide weather advisory in place from Sunday morning.

The advisory warns of "spells of heavy and persistent rainfall will continue through the week of 02nd February, particularly in southern and eastern coastal counties."

Rain will fall on saturated ground where river levels are high with high tides expected this week. This will lead to further flooding along rivers and in coastal areas.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said he will meet with those who have been affected by Storm Chandra floods later this week.

The Irish Red Cross has set up a helpline to provide support to distressed people affected by flooding. The helpline at 01-6424648 will be open 9am to 6pm across the bank holiday weekend and until required.
