Gardaí are investigating a series of alleged sexual assaults of a child at a primary school in the Mid-West which occurred over the space of several months, the Irish Examiner can reveal.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed “enquiries are ongoing” in relation to the assaults which allegedly occurred in 2019.

The victim was 11 at the time of the incidents, it is claimed. It is further understood the incidents occurred over the duration of several months on school grounds.

Sources said the concerned school contacted Tusla, which conducted an investigation in 2024. Gardaí were then contacted in 2025.

In response to a query, a spokesperson for Tusla said: “Tusla — Child and Family Agency — does not comment on individual cases.

"When a child or family enters into a relationship with a public service such as Tusla, they are entitled to expect that information generated in that relationship is treated in confidence and remains private. This is critically important in the subject matters which Tusla is involved.”
