E-scooter driver dies following Waterford crash

The driver of an e-scooter has died following a collision in Waterford city.

The collision involving a car and an e-scooter occurred this Christmas Day, at approximately 11am. 

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the collision at the junction of Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road.

"The driver of the e-scooter, a male in his 40s, was taken to University Hospital Waterford where he was later pronounced deceased.

The driver of the car, a male in his 80s, was taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of injuries believed to be non life-threatening," said a Garda spokesperson.

No other injuries were reported.

"Forensic Collision Investigators are conducting a technical examination of the scene and the roads remain closed. Local diversions are in place," added the spokesperson.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road between 10.45am and 11.15am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
