A man in his 30s has died following a collision involving a truck in Dublin city centre in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The incident occurred on Dame Street at around 1.45am. Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene, where the pedestrian was pronounced dead.
His body was later removed to Dublin City Mortuary, where an autopsy will be carried out. The local coroner has been notified.
No other injuries were reported in the incident.
It brings to two the number of deaths on Irish roads in the last 24 hours after after a woman in her 80s died in a single-vehicle collision on the R262 at Tullnaglaggin in Donegal on Wednesday afternoon.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carried out a technical examination at the scene on Dame Street, and the road has since reopened to traffic.
In a statement, gardaí appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured footage to come forward, and urged the public not to share any images or videos of the collision online.
“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have taken images or recorded footage of the incident to not share it on social media platforms or messaging apps, but instead to provide it to investigating gardaí,” the statement said.
Road users or pedestrians with camera footage — including dashcam — who were in the area between 1.30am and 2am are asked to contact investigating officers.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Pearse Street Garda Station on (01) 666 9000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
Investigations are ongoing.
