Searches at a house in Dublin as part of the investigation into the disappearance and murder of US woman Annie McCarrick have concluded, gardaí have said.

Specialist officers commenced the searches at the property in Clondalkin, Dublin 22, earlier this month.

Gardaí said the details of the search are not being released for operational reasons, and Ms McCarrick's family have been updated on the latest developments.

Ms McCarrick, a 26-year-old woman originally from New York, vanished on Friday, March 26 1993.

She had been living in Sandymount and was planning a dinner with friends the following day, as well as preparing for a visit from her mother.

She was last seen on the morning of Friday, March 26, when she bought groceries at Quinnsworth in Sandymount. The receipt found in her flat showed a purchase time of 11.02am.

She was reported missing on Sunday, March 28, 1993, by a friend. This missing persons report was confirmed by her mother, Nancy, on March 30, 1993.

Two years ago, gardaí upgraded the case to a murder investigation.

On June 12, a man, aged in his 60s, was arrested on suspicion of her murder. He was released without charge the following day, June 13.

The investigation into the disappearance and murder of Ms McCarrick is being led by the investigation team from DMR South Central Division Serious Crime Unit based at Irishtown Garda Station under the direction of a Senior Investigating Officer, assisted by the Serious Crime Review Team, Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, gardaí reiterated that the current residents of the house in Clondalkin are not in any way connected to Ms McCarrick or her disappearance, and urged anyone with any information on Ms McCarrick to come forward.

"Gardaí continue to appeal to any person who may have previously come forward who felt they could not provide gardaí with all the information they had in relation to this matter, to contact the investigation team again," a garda spokesperson said.

"With the passage of time they may now be in a position to speak further with the investigation team.

"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence."

The Garda investigation team can be contacted at Irishtown Garda Station on 01 666 9600 or anyone who wishes to provide information confidentially should contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
