Pedestrian dies after being hit by car in Co Meath

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in Co Meath.

The incident occurred this Saturday evening at Dublin Road (R135), Ashbourne, Co. Meath.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of the collision, which occurred at approximately 7.10pm.

The pedestrian, a woman aged in her 60s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Her body has since been removed to the mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital Navan, where an autopsy will take place in due course.

The male driver and passenger of the car, aged in their 20s were conveyed to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.

"The road is currently closed, pending technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with local diversions in place. It is expected to remain closed until mid-afternoon tomorrow, Sunday 25th May 2025," said a spokesperson for the garda.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 6.30pm and 7.30pm today, Saturday 24th May 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

Investigations are ongoing.

The incident is the second road fatality to occur this weekend, after a cyclist died following a collision with a tractor in Co Clare this Saturday afternoon.

Another pedestrian has been taken to the hospital following another collision, which took place in Co Wexford this afternoon.
