Young boy dies after being struck by car in Westmeath estate
The incident occurred on the outskirts of Waterford City
A young boy has died after being hit by a car in Co Westmeath.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision in Farranshock Estate in Mullingar shortly after 6.30pm.
The boy was treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The coroner has been notified, and an autopsy will now be arranged, Gardaí say.
The scene where the collision occurred is currently preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
Road users or pedestrians who were in the area at the time and have camera footage are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

Also on Monday, a man in his 20s died following a collision involving a car and a motorcycle in Co Limerick.
The crash happened at approximately 6pm yesterday at the intersection of the R521 and R523 in Ardagh village.
The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car was transferred to University Hospital Kerry for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
