Number of Cork council housing tenants in arrears of €5,000 or more has rocketed, audit shows

The number of Cork City Council housing tenants in arrears of €5,000 or more has risen by more than a third in the space of just three years, an audit of the council has found.

The Local Government Audit Service found arrears in excess of €5,000 totalled €3.8m in 2023 across 428 tenancies. This was an increase from €2.1m across 274 tenancies in 2020.
