To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Google Maps has revealed a top 10 list of Ireland’s most-reviewed destinations on its platform.
Topping the list is the Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare with 32,854 reviews, it is followed by The Book of Kells Experience in Trinity College with 14,884 reviews, while Tipperary’s Rock of Cashel rounds off the top three with 14,431.
Both Hook Lighthouse (8,235) in Co Wexford, and Torc Waterfall (7,091) in Co Kerry make it into the list’s top five. Powerscourt Waterfall, Dublinia, the Spanish Arch, Glencar Waterfall, and Cork’s Blarney Stone complete the list.
Google Maps also compiled a list of the country’s most-reviewed parks with Dublin’s Phoenix Park coming out on top with 38,464 reviews. It was followed by St Stephen’s Green (30,514) in the capital, Eyre Square (13,945) in Galway City, Cork’s Fota Wildlife Park (12,955), and Kilkenny Castle Park (11,486).
Killarney National Park, Marley Park, Wicklow Mountains National Park, Merrion Square Park, and Connemara National Park make up the top 10.
The National Museum of Ireland on Kildare Street in Dublin was the country’s most-reviewed museum, according to the platform. It has racked up 13,166 reviews since Google Maps was launched 20 years ago.
It is followed by Muckross House in Co Kerry with 9,993 reviews, EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum (6,654), and the Irish Whiskey Museum (6,654).
Google Maps says the platform has become an “indispensable tool” for more than two billion users per month. In 2024 alone, the platform provided one trillion kilometres of directions — this distance is the equivalent of the Earth orbiting the sun over one thousand times.
There are 250 million business and places on Google Maps, and if you were to visit one of these places every hour without sleeping, it would take you more than 28,500 years to get through the list.
Some 500 million users contribute information like reviews, photos, ratings and driving disruptions to the map every year, and there are 100 million updates made to the map every day. That means that in the time it took to read this sentence, the map was updated 10,000 times.
