Woman, 70s, hospitalised after being struck with SUV in hit and run collision in Louth

A woman in her 70s has been hospitalised after being struck by a SUV in a hit and run collision in Dundalk on Sunday.
The two people who were in the SUV, which was earlier the subject of an unauthorised taking, fled the scene on foot and have yet to come forward.
The incident occurred on the R177, Armagh Road at the junction with the Toberona Road, Co Louth shortly after 1pm.
The woman who was on her own in the car was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda to be treated for what are believed to be serious injuries.
Investigating Gardaí have conducted a technical examination of the scene and both vehicles involved. The road has since been fully reopened to traffic.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward. In addition, road users who may have dash-cam footage from the area at the time of the incident are also urged to contact Gardaí.
