Gardaí withdraw appeal after body of missing Donegal man found off Scotland
This morning, Gardaí confirmed they were standing down their appeal.
An appeal for information regarding a man seen entering the water in Donegal earlier this month has been stood down following the discovery of a body off the coast of Scotland.
The man, aged in his early 70s, was seen entering the water at Lagacurry Beach, Isle of Doagh, Clonmany, Co Donegal on Saturday afternoon, October 5.
He was described as 6’2” and last seen wearing a bottle green jumper, blue collared shirt, navy cords, and black boots.
At that time, investigators indicated they were operating under the assumption that the man was “missing, presumed dead.”
They urged fishermen, coastal landowners, and anyone in the area to report any relevant findings to emergency services.
This morning, Gardaí confirmed they were standing down their appeal.
A Garda spokesperson stated: “Following the formal identification of a body of a male discovered off the coast of Scotland, our appeal regarding this incident has now been withdrawn.”
“We would like to extend our thanks to the public and media for their assistance in this matter.”
The body was discovered in the water last Thursday, October 24.
