Noel Rock has today confirmed he will seek to reclaim the Dáil seat that he lost four years ago.

The former Fine Gael TD announced that he will go forward for the selection convention for his constituency of Dublin North West.

Mr Rock said that during his one term as TD he "fought hard to bring positive changes to our community" saying he is ready to continue that work.

Shortly after losing his seat in 2020, Mr Rock made an unsuccessful bid to be elected to the Seanad.

He has credited Taoiseach Simon Harris' "vision for the future" for inspiring him to run once again.

If successful in being named as a general election candidate and being elected, Mr Rock said his top priority will be ensuring that a Department of Infrastructure is created citing the importance of projects like the Metrolink and the Luas extension.

During his time in the Dáil, Mr Rock was an advocate for increased public transport services in the capital.

"The MetroLink will transform how we get around this city — making commuting faster, more reliable, and easing congestion for everyone. And the Luas extension to Finglas is a project I’ve championed because it’s time our part of the city gets the transport links it deserves," he said.

During his time as TD, Mr Rock submitted draft legislation — along with Stephen Donnelly — to ban ticket touting. The bill, put forward in 2017, was approved following some tweaks in 2021.

It is expected the selection convention will be held in the near future with a general election date of November 29 suggested by Green Party leader Roderic O'Gorman.
