'A very tough year': Mary Lou McDonald on her husband's cancer diagnosis

Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has spoken for the first time about her husband's cancer diagnosis.

Ms McDonald told Virgin Media TV's Ireland AM programme that her husband Martin Lanigan was diagnosed with colorectal cancer during a family break to France.

<p> Volunteers attending the DMax 7.7 fitness event, in honour of Darragh McCarthy, who tragically passed away last year at just 21 years of age. The sold-out fitness event saw over 300 competitors take on DMax 7.7 featuring seven fitness stations, lasting seven minutes per station with a two minute transition between station. Competitors entered in teams of two and tested their strength, endurance and mental resilience across a series of challenges including rope skipping, ski-erg, medicine ball, assault bike, rowing, burpee box jumps and wall balls.
