Contraband worth over €826,000 seized at Dublin Port

Revenue has seized contraband worth over €826,000 during the course of numerous operations at Dublin Port over the last week.
Officers seized 210kg of tobacco branded 'Virginia' with an estimated value of €173,100, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €130,000.
Some 40,000 cigarettes, branded 'John Player', were also seized. These had an estimated value of €33,500, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €26,300.
Also discovered was 31kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €620,000.
The illegal tobacco and cigarettes were seized with the assistance of detector dog Waffle.
The discovery was made in a consignment of jigsaw puzzles which had originated from Poland which was intended for an address in Co Donegal.
The herbal cannabis was seized with the assistance of detector dog Milo.
The detections were made in parcels originating from Spain and were intended for an address in Co Carlow.
Investigations into all of these seizures are ongoing.
