Michelle O’Neill's apology for the "hurt caused" by her attendance at the funeral of republican Bobby Storey at the height of covid-19 pandemic restrictions was one that she had little choice to give.

But for citizens who were denied their opportunity to mark the death of their loved ones, it’s an apology that may have come too late.
