Teenage pedestrian dies following fatal collision on N17 in Mayo
The pedestrian, a male aged in his teens, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A teenager has died following a fatal collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the N17 in Mayo on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:20pm at Barnacarroll, Claremorris, Co Mayo.
The pedestrian, a male aged in his teens, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body has been removed to Mayo University Hospital where a post mortem will take place.
No other injuries have been reported.
The road is currently closed to allow for a forensic examination to take place. Local diversions are in place.
His death brings the number of people who have died on the roads so far this year to 57. On Friday night a 37-year-old mother of one, Claire Kavanagh, was killed in a crash in Tipperary.
Ms Kavanagh, who was a native of Carrick on Suir died and several others were injured in the two-vehicle crash in South Tipperary on the N24 in Kilsheelan.
A major nationwide crackdown on road safety is continuing today with Gardaí out in force across the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), and were travelling on the N17 between Claremorris and Knock yesterday evening between 8:45pm and 9:30pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
