Two arrested and €5,000 of drugs seized as part of EU-wide investigation

Law enforcement authorities from Lithuania, Ireland and Britain were involved in the investigation.

Gardaí targeting an organised criminal group involved in the sale and supply of controlled drugs arrested two people in January and seized cash and drugs.

Gardaí participated in a joint action day last month as part of an EU-wide investigation.

Law enforcement authorities from Lithuania, Ireland and Britain were involved in the investigation.

Some €34,700 in cash, suspected controlled drugs to the approximate value of €5,000, and a number of electronic devices and financial documents were seized during the searches.

Members of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau were supported by the Garda National Dog Unit as they carried out planned searches at three locations in Ireland.

Two people were arrested on suspicion of having committed offences contrary to the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010.

They were detained under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 and questioned at a Garda Station in the south of the country.

They were subsequently released and a file is being prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
