Man arrested after body discovered in Co Kildare

A man has been arrested in relation to the murder of a man in his 50s at a home in Co Kildare this afternoon. 

Gardaí say they are investigating the incident which happened between 3pm and 4pm on School Street, in Kilcock. 

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out on Friday morning at the mortuary at Naas General Hospital by State Pathologist Sally Ann Collis. The man's body remains at the scene.

The scene on School Street remains cordoned off for the Garda Technical Bureau to carry out an examination.

A Senior Investigating Officer will be leading the investigation at Leixlip Garda Station and a Family Liaison Officer has been appointed. 

A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder as part of this investigation. 

He is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in Kildare.

Gardaí are appealing to any persons who were in the vicinity of School Street between 3pm and 4pm and observed any activity which drew their attention to come forward.

"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the vicinity of School Street between 3pm and 4pm are asked to make this footage available to gardaí," a garda spokesperson said. 

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Leixlip Garda Station on 01 6667800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
